Simplify Everything, But Start with Your Skin
Right now in New York, we are in the thick of winter and let me tell you up front I am not loving it. Snow is everywhere, my body aches from freezing temperatures, and to be quite honest it’s just not a cute time.
In the midst of my winter dismay, I have been doing a lot of thinking and spending time in solitude. Like A LOT of time okay (we can get into that later). While with my thoughts, there was one of those moments where you have a…what do you call it…a just f*ck it scream?
I was done. “I am tired, I look worn out, my skin is dull and cracking everywhere, and when did my nose start peeling and why won’t it stop?” I just kept staring in the mirror thinking ‘Okay, you are doing everything correctly, you’re using the products correctly, so wtf is going on and how can I get a grip on myself’ and then it hit me. Let’s just f*ck it and start over. So that’s what I did.
Let me also plug here that in any situation in life, from skincare to career, it is NEVER too late to say f*ck it and start over. Anyone who tells you it is, is just too scared to try.
So I purged all of my skincare and started to think more intentionally about what I was putting on my face. I realized that I am super into clean beauty now and opt for Bare Minerals for things like make-up remover and cleanser. I realized that I find value in an effective but gentle exfoliant so I splurged and went with STURM. What I truly realized is that sometimes you have to literally stop what you are doing, remove everything and start over. I realized as much as I thought I was doing the right thing, without a self-evaluation I was never going to be doing the right thing for me.
Throughout life we are in constant waves of change, and often times we forget why things don’t fit us anymore—it’s because we simply grew out of them. I know this tangent is a little unconventional (to compare life to simplifying my dang skincare for the millionth time haha…ha) but it’s what I believe to be the truth and that’s all I am here to share.
