The Weekly Tea: Avoid Holiday Scaries & Start Shopping Now

November is in full swing, which means — brace yourselves—the holiday season is already here and it stops for no one. If you are feeling a slight shiver of panic like we did when reading that sentence, then fear not this post is for you.

How to Avoid the Holiday Scaries?

First, what are ‘holiday scaries’ and how can it be possible to have them? For us, the ‘holiday scaries’ are found that little moment where you realize you haven’t organized a single thing for the holidays (gifting, events, travel etc.)—and then begin to spiral while listening to jingle bell rock in your kitchen with a homemade eggnog recipe in hand. Let’s avoid that scene this year, shall we?

In actuality, the holidays are full of wonderful chaos, family, friends and ultimately are some of the busiest times of the year for your schedule and possibly your wallet. It can feel overwhelming, and while can’t be fully avoided, can be eased with a few simple tweaks.

Here are a few ways to keep your holiday vibes on track with a few gifts and tricks that absolutely sleigh.

First, Get Organized

To start, make a list of all of the people in your orbit that you plan to purchase and/or create a gift for—this should be everyone from your family or significant other, to your boss at work. Once you have your list of folks, begin to think through each person and what might suit them—the best gift is always the one from the heart! Creating a ‘gifting list’ of who you are buying for will help you narrow the scope on just what exactly you need to purchase.

Then, Start Shopping…Like Now If You Can

This is probably the most obvious tip—but definitely a rule most (including us) do not practice in full. The time to shop is now! Whether you choose to shop in-store or online, products are always changing, inventory will be in flux and there could always be a delay in shipment. Do yourself the favor and get organized from the ground up to avoid any last minute shopping fuss.

Gifting List, Check!

Once you have your gifting list, and you are ready to start shopping, it’s time to start thinking through the gifts themselves. There is a gift out there for everyone—but if you are struggling with where to start for some of this season’s must-haves check out a few of our recommendations.

  • Youthforia BYO Blush Trio - Back at it again with some unstoppable magic, Youthforia just launched an all-new BYO Blush Trio. This set features 3 entirely new shades that offer a punchy color with a light highlight, offering the perfectly flushed effect of your dreams. BIG HINT—all Youthforia is running 30% off at Ulta today. Run do not walk.

  • Byredo Mojave Ghost - Splurge on yourself or someone you love with the scent of a lifetime (and one that lasts just about that long too). Byredo should be top of mind for anyone looking to elevate their day to day with an unstoppable scent—Mojave Ghost is always on the go-to.

  • Malin + Goetz Get Lit Set - Okay, now this is actually a steal of a deal. Get one full-size Cannabis candle + a Cannabis votive for just $60—and with candles that burn collectively for over 50 hours this is a no brainer. Set your space at ease with this relaxing scent —slightly musky, slightly spicy, but wrapped in a warm and welcoming glow. Thank us later when your guests all say ‘Oh wow it smells so good in here.’

  • Twenty/ Twenty Beauty Shadow Trio - For the folks in your life that love makeup—do them a favor and replace something they love with a clean version. Makeup, specifically eye makeup, can be the most damaging and harmful because the laws that define the ingredients simply are not strict enough in the USA! If they wear eyeshadow—more so if they love a good shimmer—opt for Ophthalmologist created and tested Twenty/Twenty Beauty. Shadow sticks do the most for us but the mascara is a MUST HAVE.

  • Susan Alexandra Bead Box - Back with this recommendation years later because it is still one of our favorites. Another ‘best kind of gift’ is the one you wouldn’t buy yourself. Would you buy yourself this to play with at age 26? Probably not, but if we were gifted this we would be the happiest people ever. Case closed.

Finally, Just Let it Roll

Okay, so maybe you did all the shopping or maybe you still haven’t. Either way—the best thing you can do for yourself now is to start planning. The more you can organize, shift or at least have on the calendar before Thanksgiving, the better you will feel about spending your time in between then and end of year.

The holidays are FUN—if you take the right steps to make them feel that way for yourself. So again, tap into your own vibe, pour a hot toddy, bust out the laptop and trimmings and let’s get the holidays started!
